What is Assisted Hatching?
Immediately before the embryo is transferred into the uterine cavity, the embryo sheath is incised to facilitate its implantation in the endometrium.
Indications for treatment
- A woman’s age above 37 years
- Elevated levels of the hormone FSH in the woman
- Excessively thick outer envelope of the embryo
- Previous unsuccessful IVF attempts
The risk of damaging the embryo during the procedure is minimal. The procedure increases the possibility of a monozygotic multiple pregnancy.
