Colposcopy

Early detection of infections and cancerous lesions

Colposcopy is a brief, non-invasive and painless examination to observe the lower part of a woman’s reproductive system (cervix, vagina and vulva). The examination can be performed at any age, during pregnancy, and while breastfeeding. The examination is best performed between 10 and 20 dc.

The examination is carried out in a gynecological chair, using a speculum with the help of an optical device – a colposcope (a microscope that has a magnification capacity of 5 to 50 times).

The study is divided into several stages:

  • Evaluation of vaginal contents (color, clarity, density and arrangement of plaques).
  • Evaluation of the color and surface structure of the vaginal vascular bed epithelium.
  • Trial with 3% acetic acid aqueous solution to differentiate the cervical epithelium, preliminary diagnosis of the process of precancerous lesions of early cervical cancer.
  • Iodine test, which involves washing the surface to be evaluated with an aqueous iodine solution, which should confirm the previously observed changes or lack thereof.

At the end of the examination, the patient receives a description of the examination.

Indications for the study:

  • Abnormal cytology test result.
  • Collection of a cervical specimen for histopathological examination.
  • Detection of HPV infection.
  • For follow-up after previous colposcopic examinations.

  • Erosion, polyp or hypertrophy of the cervix.

Contraindications to the study:

  • Period.
